More Money Or More Clients? Making A Clear Choice

Before you decide on your health coaching model, you’ll have to know the answer to this: Do you want to make more money or do you want to help more clients?

It’s important to distinguish between the two and identify your health coaching business goals because if you want to help more clients, then you’re probably going to have to charge a lot less. On the other hand, if you charge more, you can decide to take in less but higher ticket clients, and still make the same (if not more) money.

Let’s say you want to make $10,000 a month. That’s going to be 100 clients paying you $100 each. Or, that could also be 2 clients paying you $5,000 each. Which appeals more to you?

When deciding on your coaching model, you have to keep in mind your health coaching business goals, and the amount of work you want and CAN put in. If it’s your goal to enroll more clients, it’s probably going to be less high-touch and in the form of a membership or a course. The work will pour into trying to generate traffic that’s large enough to even get those 100 clients, in our example.

Charging a premium price, the nature of your coaching model is definitely going to change. Two clients paying $5,000 is going to come out of 5 or 6 conversations over the phone — nowhere near the traffic you’ll need to produce if you want 100 clients for your health coaching business.

Now, if it’s at the top of your business goals to have 100 clients paying $5,000 each, let’s talk. Because that’s a different ball game altogether. And that’s the level that we’re playing at. In this case, you’re definitely NOT going to be doing all of the coaching yourself. You’re going to have to recruit some coaches into your team — which is also a different challenge to take on.

So what goals do you have for your health coaching business? Which model is more worth your time and resources to pursue? Be deliberate about choosing your health coaching model. Your answer will ultimately determine which direction you’re bound to go, and how profitable you can become.

In this video, I simply want to offer you a reminder: don’t be dumb. And don’t go hiring people who are. So, how not to be dumb? By this I mean you need to be attentive to details, know how to follow instructions, and always put effort in what you do so it’s clear that you actually care about it. By just doing the little things that most people aren’t willing to do, you can be great.

When was the last time you were blown away by the service you received? Personally, I feel that I’m rarely wowed nowadays. The level of mediocrity in the world is a huge problem. And I was reminded of this as I went through our latest hiring process.

So here’s the situation. We posted a job description with a secret code embedded in it. And along with following the guidelines in the description, the applicants have to share the code with us. This was a way of ensuring that each applicant had read the description and was attentive to details. Pretty basic…yet I still had people asking me on messenger for the secret code.

Follow basic instructions and put effort in what you do. That’s essentially how not to be dumb. I think that the world doesn’t owe anyone anything.  So always do the basics well, and try to even go beyond! What happened yesterday entitles you to nothing tomorrow. If you feel differently, you’re likely to get complacent.

Here’s the thing. People don’t like to take extra time to do the things that make a difference because that’s not scalable. But I encourage you to do those things anyway. Why? Because they make people (customers or potential employers) feel special. And all people want to feel special. They want to feel like they’re the only person you’re talking to.

The thing is, leadership can either make or break your business.

In this video, I share the 3 LEADERSHIP PRINCIPLES that every business owner should know, whether you’re a health expert or not. I also explain how to use your entrepreneurial leadership skills to build an amazing team and business.

You already know that if you’re building a team, you’re a leader. But the thing you have to understand is that you are, first and foremost, the leader of your own life, even if you’re not building a team. All of the decisions you make will have an impact to your success.

The challenge is that it takes a little bit more learning to understand that we can’t actually do everything ourselves. Hiring great people allows you to impact more people, including the people on your team. No one achieves anything amazing by themselves.

With this in mind, the first of the leadership principles is that skill can never trump cultural fit. It’s not good enough for someone to be really good at what they do. You can hire a rockstar, but if they’re not willing to grow, adapt, and work with your team, then it’s going to be a nightmare.

The second thing is to delegate the details. It doesn’t make sense for you to continue doing everything you once did if you want to scale. Good entrepreneurial leadership also means you shouldn’t micromanage. Instead, you should coach and provide feedback to help your team grow. Give them ownership over the outcomes you expect.

Lastly, it’s important to learn how to climb the 5 Levels of Leadership, which I also learned from John Maxwell. These 5 levels are: position, permission, production, reproduction, and respect. When you master these 5 aspects of leadership, you’ll have built a business that lasts.

Never underestimate the importance of good entrepreneurial leadership. Use these 3 leadership principles to elevate your business, yourself, and those around you.
